Colangelo Keeps The Train Rolling With Second at Orlando
Dream Season Continues For Florida Racer
In his last 15 races, Jeremy Colangelo has finished outside the top five just two times. That consistency has made him one of the best in the Florida region of racing, so when he entered Friday night's Brighthouse event at Orlando Speedworld (FL), everyone knew he was going to be one of the drivers fighting for the win. While he thought his car was strong enough to take the victory, Colangelo finished one position short of taking his third win in his last six races.
Colangelo's strong run started in qualifying, where he set fast time after a timing snafu forced him to retime in.
"In qualifying, they didn't get my lap times," said Colangelo. "They washed my first times. According to one of the official's charts, I was fast enough to be on the pole. We went out and ended up a couple hundredths faster than the first time out, so either way we would have had the pole."
After the redraw, Colangelo started the event from the third position, but he could never get back to the lead, despite issues in front of him.
"On the initial start, I cleared the fourth-place guy and was in third," explained Colangelo. "After about a lap or a lap and a half, there was a wreck behind us and they called for a complete restart. On the restart I spun the tires a little bit, which allowed the fourth-place guy to drop down (in front). We kept pressure on him. Shortly after that the leaders collected each other and were sent to the rear, so that moved Dalton Zehr to the first and us to second.
"I pressured him for most of the race. There at the end we got a little tight, and I don't know if he was leaking something or not because the track got really greasy. We still brought home a second-place finish, so that was a good points night for us."
Colangelo will shift his focus to next weekend's Sunbelt Series race, right back at the same track as this past weekend.
"I know I will be disappointed if I come home with anything less than a win."
The Sunbelt Series event will take place on Friday, October 24th at Orlando Speedworld.
