Colangelo Takes a Pair of Top Five’s
Florida Native Scores First Career Pole
In two nights of racing, Jeremy Colangelo saw a little too much action for a driver who came away with a pair of top-five finishes. The DeLand, Florida driver rolled off fifth in the Sunbelt Super Series event at Orlando SpeedWorld on Friday. The night ended with a smashed up race car, but still a solid finish despite the damage.
“We started fifth and moved into fourth and just rode there for about half the race,” said Colangelo. “The leaders were racing pretty hard there for a little bit, so we decided to back up and give them some room.”
Planning on a late race charge, Colangelo dropped the hammer and pulled up to the leaders when things got a little wild.
“Sure enough, with two or three laps to go, the leaders got together and went spinning and I couldn’t get checked up enough and I got into the back of Matt Bowers.”
Bowers would go on to win but Colangelo had trouble seeing the rest of the event after the contact. For the final two laps he had to rely on help for vision.
“That messed the car up pretty good, it tore the bumper off and it push the hood up so high my spotter had to help me during the final restart so I would run into anyone.”
The next night, Colangelo took the pole in for a 50-lap Limited Late Model feature at New Smyrna Speedway (FL). The redraw pushed him back to fifth as he was looking to back up his first career pole with his first career Late Model win.
“I was passing for third by lap six and I got pinched off and I got into the wall and fell back in the aftermath. We worked hard to get back to fifth and overall it was a good night.”
The damage slowed Colangelo down a little bit but not enough to keep him out of the top five for the third time in the last four races.
Jeremy Colangelo will return to Orlando SpeedWorld this weekend for the Goodyear Challenge event. He is currently sixth in the point standings looking for that first win.
Rack up a pair of top-fives for Colangelo after this past weekend in Florida.
