Jeremy Colangelo Set for Nine Nights of Racing at World Series
New Smyrna Speedway (FL) will be the Backdrop for the
43rd Annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing
It’s one whole season of racing rolled into a week of action.  Drivers like Jeremy Colangelo can’t be more excited for the 43rd Annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car racing at New Smyrna Speedway (FL).  Drivers from all around the United States, and even Canada, come to take part in the nine-night series that offers drivers in multiple divisions a chance to race as many as eight times over a nine-day period.  This will be Colangelo’s first attempt at a Speedweeks’ Championship.  The Deland, Florida, Super Late Model driver will hope to score some victories in his RE/MAX Mark Martin Performance Chevrolet.

With NASCAR team owners and drivers being stationed at Daytona International Speedway up the road, chances are that they will head south to watch the short track racers strut there stuff.  That gives some drivers extra momentum to circle the track each night.  Colangelo enjoys the thought of being watched by the best in the business.  He’s got pretty good practice being a Mark Martin development driver.

“There will be guys coming over from the big track in Daytona to watch us race around the half mile,” said Colangelo.  “I think Mark (Martin) has been impressed with our finishes, and it would be cool to win one.  Maybe he‘ll be there to root us on some of those nights.”

Colangelo won a pair of Super Late Model races last season, both of which were at New Smyrna Speedway.  He hopes to build off of those wins and become a serious contender for the weeklong Super Late Model championship.

“We’re really looking forward to getting back to New Smyrna,” said Colangelo.  “The World Series is always exciting.  It ranks right up there with the Governor’s Cup title and winning a Super Late Model championship.  It’s pretty exciting to have other drivers come from all over the country to come race with us.”

Preparation will be key to winning the overall title.  One bad night could spell disaster for any driver in any class.  Super Late Model teams are at more of an advantage because they will have backup cars in their hauler ready to go if the primary car has problems.

“We’ll have all of our spare parts in order, and we’ll have a backup car ready to go if we have issues,” added Colangelo.  “We also are only a few minutes down the road from the track, so if we have to do a lengthy repair, we have that to our advantage.”

Action will begin on Friday, February 6th, and run until Saturday, February 14th.  The final night of racing will feature the Super Late Models in their 100-lap Pete Orr Memorial event.
